October 16th, 2014 No Seatbelt Extension Needed

October 16th, 2014 No Seatbelt Extension Needed

The experience of flying again was excellent. I didn't need a seatbelt extension and I was in my seat, 100%. I wasn't crowding the person next to me. It was one of those moments were my brain was forced to accept reality. Because for whatever reason, my brain doesn't register how much smaller I am, at least most of the time. Seeing a profile reflection in a window or mirror gives some perspective--but nothing like sitting in a small airplane seat and comfortably clicking the seatbelt--then realizing there's a sliver of my seat left between me and the person in the middle.

I must allow the Tweets to tell the story of my Thursday because I'm on a timer. My laptop, for whatever reason, is moving super slow. I don't know if it's my laptop or the internet service here at the Marriot Grand Chateau in Vegas. So--in order to get Thursday's post up--I made my way to the lobby and one of the complimentary computers. The only catch: You're on a timer. I have just under eight minutes remaining.

I'm the guest of Jon from Wisconsin. Jon has had some incredible success along this road, losing over 100 pounds to date and counting. It's been awesome meeting him here in Vegas and already it's like a weight loss/transformation meeting of the minds. I'm looking forward to the next couple of days!

The two hour time difference is hitting me fairly hard. It's just after 2am here--which is after 4am back home. I'm wrapping this up and headed to bed. Viva Las Vegas!

  1. Most people never realize the anxiety that flying causes for severely overweight people. I'll bet even under 300 you still had some thoughts beforehand. I'm truly happy for you; I'm looking forward to the day when I don't have to fear the airplane seat... and the plastic lawn chair... and the rollercoaster ride... and the...

    1. The anxiety was still there, absolutely! I thought about it as I waited to board, wondering if I had lost enough to make that big of a difference. I was pleasantly overwhelmed when I discovered how well I fit. It was a "moment," for sure! Oh FogDog--I remember the plastic lawn chair and the roller coaster anxiety...very well. And like you, the list goes on and on... Thank you so much for your encouragement and support. It's all ahead for you, too!!

  2. Oh the dreaded airplane ride!, major anxiety regardless of the need or not of an extender when you're overweight! Flying international for me made it worse! Because of the long long uncomfortable flights! Hope you got some good rest and enjoy your time there!

    1. It was an amazing trip! Yes--the airplane seat was an experience, for sure. It was a good one this time!! I remember times in the past when that wasn't the case!
I just slept 11 hours straight (I'm back home now and it's Monday afternoon). Thank you Alati!

  3. I've only been on an airplane once, and I was about 50 pounds lighter than I am now. I stressed and stressed over fitting in the seat. In the end I fit (snugly) and didn't need an extender. Now....well, I'm just glad I won't be flying anytime soon.

    1. Connie-- I still had some anxiety, but was immediately relieved when I sat down and "it all" fit! LOL Anyone who hasn't a worry in this way, couldn't possibly know what we go through in these situations. To make it to the point where it isn't a worry is truly liberating, physically and mentally. I rarely fly anywhere, but like you--it's nice to know I can without too much worry, if needed!

  4. Isn't it the most awesome thing?!?!!? The seat belt having some room!! I posted a pic on my blog of that very thing at the beginning of October!

I felt like I had arrived! Hubster laughed at me, but he was proud of me too!

    Good job Sean!

    1. Lucky Mama--I totally relate!!! It is one of the best feelings ever to be free of that anxiety!!! Arrived...great way to put that! For those who have never felt paralyzed by the anxiety and fear of not fitting--especially when you know you must get through it somehow, some way--it's hard for them to appreciate what a big deal it is when it isn't a worry anymore. It was a tremendous relief!!!

  5. Congrats Sean on your seatbelt fitting! What a great feeling! I remember @ my old weight which was 300 the day I started, trying to fit in a chair at a concert and so on... Recently seeing chairs I had the same thoughts in my mind, "am I going to fit?" I am happy to report that I could sit and fit a smaller person next to me! Whooop... so happy for you!

  6. Becky--You will feel amazing when you reach that day. And you will!!!! It was an absolute pleasure instead of an absolute pain. I kept thinking, so this is how it feels to fit nicely in one of these... I had never fit like that, where it was simply fine.
