May 13th, 2015 Weigh Day Edition

May 13th, 2015 Weigh Day Edition

I couldn't have been more pleased with today's weigh-in:

5 more pounds down over the previous three week period. The fifty-five week total weight loss sits at 157 pounds. After a monumental relapse period with a regain of 164 pounds, I can't seem to properly express how wonderful it feels to be within 7 pounds of zeroing the regain amount.

Maintenance mode is on my mind all of the time these days. I'm too tired to get detailed tonight, but as I've written before, it'll look remarkably similar to everything I've been doing for the last year-plus. I'll write more about the plan in the coming days.

When I woke this morning, I didn't realize I would be spending the afternoon and evening with my grandson. It was an unexpected treat. Irene and I divided Noah time today.

We snacked, watched Ellen and SpongeBob, made funny faces and marveled at one another until very late, when Irene was able to relieve me.

I hadn't planned on it, but making today a rest day seemed like the obvious choice considering the circumstances.

Letting the Tweets take it the rest of the way tonight. It's insanely late for me.

  1. Good for you, what an accomplishment!! I notice you mostly seem to eat your three meals a day and that's it. So often now we see where people snack an awful lot on this program or that program. Was this a conscience choice ?

    1. I suppose it was more of an intuitive choice. I typically eat three meals and a late snack--usually fruit of some kind. I occasionally will have a late afternoon snack, but most of the time I don't.
It really goes against something I understand and believe to be true, that our metabolisms need fuel every three or four hours... But I must say-- I prefer the bigger meals, instead of several smaller meals. It's more convenient for me, I suppose.
And truly-- the way I eat, I'm hardly ever hungry. I always make sure I have my #lastfoodofday no matter what...
      Thank you Robin!

    2. Given the obvious positive workings of my metabolism--(I'm immensely grateful by the way)--perhaps the bigger meals are providing enough nutrients to get it through the longer stretches without eating...I don't know. If this is true, then having 5-7 smaller meals throughout the day would keep me in preparation too long--or if I planned ahead well enough, it might lead to me eating things I wasn't totally enjoying--in the name of "smaller meals more often."
I'm not saying it's wrong or what I'm doing is right for anyone but me.. It is certainly working well for me. I'm very happy about this!

  2. Great loss. Must feel wonderful to be so close to negating the regain. I need to get motivated. I re-gained 30 pounds and started taking it back off in April, but have slipped off the wagon again in May. So happy for you!

  5. Fantabulous, Sean! Can't say it enough that you are truly someone who has it together. And if you don't, you don't show it! I applaud your commitment. I don't think I've encountered anyone so dedicated to their health as you are.
And the question was asked above: Did you make it a choice not to snack after a certain time of the day ?
And also, been thinking... You don't fall to far from your food groups. Not judging but on your other journey of losing,,, yes, I know , no one likes the word journey... but did you eat other things? And what is your biggest trigger food of all time? Did you have one? Like mine would be a pan , yes, a pan of brownies....

Curious minds want to know.. or just mine ! :)

Thanks Sean and congrats on such a fabulous WI and life! Noah is so darn cute!

    1. Great questions, Rosie!
I have no time limits for my #lastfoodofday. I'll eat that snacl at 1am if needed (and I have). And thanks to my late nights, I've had dinner as late as 10 or 11pm...
I'm not saying it's necessarily correct and right for everybody--I've been very fortunate it's worked well for me.
I did eat all kinds of other things. I tend to eat foods I absolutely love eating. I love the flavors, the textures--everything about it. I change it up enough for me. I believe eating food you genuinely love is a critical element along this road.
I've improved my nutrition, not all at once--but with a gradual evolution of good choices...For anyone just starting out--i always encourage them to eat what they love, within the boundaries of their calorie budget...over time, the choices can naturally evolve.
A semi-regular meal for me, early on during my initial weight loss, was a McDouble-No cheese and a small fries from McDonald's It was 530 delicious calories and it resembled most what I was accustomed to eating--now it was in limited quantities. I think if I tried that now--it would have some kind of adverse effect, I'm sure of it!
But for me, the idea was a gradual evolution of good choices. I'm not forcing myself to "like" anything I can't stand.
Eating is a pleasure, not a chore--not something to dread, but something to look forward to doing...and when we can do that--and feel great about how our choices have evolved over time...we win.
Biggest trigger food?? Without compitition--Ice Cream!!!!

Thank you, Rosie! He is adorable, isn't he?? It's so fantastic to have him in my life!

    1. Megan, thank you!! I really enjoy eating well. And I agree---I do believe the selection has something to do with the consistent losses over the last 55 weeks. i fully expected a big slowdown--or plateau and it never really happened. Believe me--I'm truly grateful and immensely blessed for this... It's a subject of study for me, that's for sure!
