Day 444 Dad's Doing Great and I Never Get Tired of This

Day 444

Dad's Doing Great and I Never Get Tired of This

Well here we are. Day 444, now that does look nice! I sometimes can't believe all we've been through. And when I say "we," I mean everyone in my life. It's been very interesting at times, sad at times, triumphant, fun, educational, and despite all things considered, it's easily known as some of the best days of our lives.

I received a text message from my dad this morning before 5:30am. He told me that he would be released from the hospital today. After a complicated weekend, everything seems to be working right now, certainly an answer to a prayer. His short message didn't explain what I discovered later. The pathology reports and various other test show that the mass was benign. The doctors believe they got it all, so the prognosis is great. So good in fact, they've cancelled plans for chemotherapy. What a tremendous blessing. Thank you to Aunt Beverly for the information! It was fantastic news and a wonderful springboard for a productive day.

I was up really late last night and then overslept this morning. I've mentioned this before and I will again. When I wake up late and have very little time--breakfast is still a priority. I quickly cooked up a couple of eggs. How hurried was I? They were whole eggs. I didn't even take the time to separate the eggs. So I started the day with 140 calories in the eggs and 130 calories worth of fruit and yogurt that I had stored in the fridge at work. A 270 calorie breakfast works for me, not too much or too little, just right. I would have much preferred a four or five egg white omelet for the calories, but I was rushed!

I posted a question on facebook this morning. I asked if everyone agreed that moving was an acceptable/justifiable circumstance for missing a workout. Is moving a workout? I later posted the same thought on yesterday's blog posting. Of course the answer is clearly yes, moving from one residence to another is certainly a workout. I guess I was trying to feel better about missing a traditional workout. It worked. But it wouldn't work today, oh no.

Whitney sent me a text requesting another racquetball match. I quickly accepted the challenge and reserved the court. Today would be a great workout day. Racquetball and weight lifting in the afternoon, and moving stuff in the evening. I was moving around a little slower by bed time, once again much later than I prefer. I dropped in just after 12:30am.

I'm looking forward to weigh-in next Wednesday. It should completely squash any idea of a plateau. Seriously, with this level of exercise and keeping my calories in a good place---I'm hoping for a decent reward on the scale. But whatever happens come next Wednesday, I'll be fine. This is my life now.

I can't wait to be in our new place and new kitchen! It will make a big difference in our routine. If you've read the archives, then you know that we've always been big on family dinner time. It's always been important to us, a chance for all of us to sit down and catch up on each others life and day to day happenings. I credit family meal time with helping my daughters become strong, healthy, mature young ladies. They're both beautiful, wonderfully smart, and incredibly mature for their age. As I've said many times, we're very lucky parents indeed.

I had a meeting today with a big sponsor of my morning radio show. I hadn't stopped by their location in a while, so you can imagine the reaction I received when I walked in the store. I absolutely love "wow" reactions. I love them when they happen and I also love writing about them. The client couldn't believe the dramatic change in my appearance. "You look like a completely different person." Cool huh. Yes, yes it is! We talked about this blog and the entire journey for a good fifteen minutes before everyone arrived for the conference. It gave me a chance to explain my philosophy on weight loss, to which the client interrupted, asking "Do you ever get tired of explaining all of this?" Never! Are you kidding? This is my passion. Sharing my story and trying to inspire people to break free from morbid obesity is what I'm doing and it will be my future. There's no doubt about that.

What a fantastic Wednesday! I look forward to the coming days, especially getting settled into our new apartment. I'm so happy about my Dad's news. I'm looking forward to seeing him someday soon.

Thank you so much for reading and following along this road with me. We're doing this! Can you believe it? Finally, finally, finally---after years of struggle and tears, after the emotional and physical pain of morbid obesity---we're in control now. And we're getting out of here in one piece! We're escaping the prison never to return. We're claiming our freedom one pound at a time. We've got some living to do my friends! Goodnight and...

Good Choices,
Sean

  6. What completely fantastic news about your Dad...there is such power in prayer! Glad you had a great workout with Whit and that you're really stepping up your exercise routine. It's going to pay off on the scale next week...I just know it. Feels good to finally be in control, doesn't it? I have a feeling I'm going to have a fantastic weigh-in myself tomorrow morning...make sure you stop by. :)
