Things felt better today. Not 100%, butt better. I accomplished quite a lot at work before heading out to emcee/DJ an annual event at an elementary school. KPNC is a partner in education with this particular school. This was the fifth or sixth year in a row for me emceeing the festivities. Many of the parents and teachers only see me at the school once or twice a year. The reaction to my maintenance weight this evening brought several people up to me saying similar things. I assured a couple of them I wasn't trying to lose weight, just maintain at this point. "You don't need to lose anymore weight," seems to be the most common reaction. I agree.
I also agree that I must transition my focus onto fitness and strength. I've had a rough week in the workout department, considering my minor, albeit painful little ailment--but I'm looking forward to getting into a consistent routine in the coming week. I may not have had an intentional workout again today, but I worked out. Moving the sound equipment by myself is a big job, loading, unloading, setting up, loading out and then unloading back into storage.
I was unloading tonight when I dropped a heavy wood platform on my right leg. My bad leg. It gashed me good. I started bleeding through my new jeans and down my leg, pooling on the tongue of my right shoe. I quickly made it to a pharmacy where I grabbed some first aid supplies and Oxi Clean to get the stains out, then to a store to get some dinner ingredients--all the while wearing these bloodied jeans. I made it home and treated the wound. My leg was swollen from the injury. I'll be resting it well tonight, elevating it and wrapping it tomorrow morning before reporting to Oktoberfest for broadcast and emcee duties on the main stage. The great thing about this weekend's Oktoberfest emcee job? I don't need to bring anything but me. No sound equipment to lug around! Just hand me a microphone and show me to the stage!
Oktoberfest is another annual event I regularly emcee. I'm looking forward to feeling incredibly free on that stage this weekend. I wrote about the Oktoberfest emcee experience during relapse/regain two years ago. It wasn't a pleasant experience. This weekend should be a very pleasant experience.
Tonight's event featured all kinds of games and food. I grabbed some almonds and cheese as a holdover until a late dinner and passed on the available stuff.
The playlist was "tween" tonight. This is the look after the 18th request for the likes of Hanna Montana, Justin Bieber and Elsa from the movie Frozen. I need to let it go, I suppose.
I'm hitting the pillow ready for a good night's rest. I'll be sleeping in fairly well. My food will take some planning tomorrow. I'll figure it out in the morning. It's bedtime!

Thank you for reading and your continued support,
Strength,
Sean
Hi Sean, you seem to have been in the wars this week, bless you and be careful!! Thanks for for inspiration, my break out the skinny girl blog was kind of born because of you and it's helping so much - I check in with you daily and am grateful for the wisdom that only someone who's been on the journey could understand. Fond regards, take care D x
ReplyDeleteDee, thank you! I'm so glad you're writing your blog!! It's important.
DeleteI have followed you from I think 2009!!?? and now I know why! you are real! you struggle but you have the fight to get back on track. You have always inspired me
ReplyDeletethank you Sean!
Karla, I sincerely appreciate this, thank you! Since 2009! :) It's been an interesting six years, for sure! Your longtime support is truly a blessing.
DeleteOuch! A hint from a nurse who has seen and dealt with blood and its stains for years? Pick up a bottle of generic hydrogen peroxide and pour some over the stain. It will bubble and foam and any protein based stain will wash right out.
ReplyDeleteThank you! A few others mentioned this, too. I had purchased the Oxi Clean immediately after-- I think one of its "secrets" is the peroxide. I could have saved a few bucks and just purchased peroxide!
DeletePraying for your leg! Blood comes out easily with soap and COLD water. Never wash it out with hot. That's my practical advice for the day!! Question for you...how do you get your flatbread crispy for pizza? Hope your leg heals quickly. Shirley from TN
ReplyDeleteShirley, thank you for the prayers! The leg is doing well. The stain was eliminated!
DeleteThe pizza: make sure your heat is at least 420 degrees. And the biggest thing--Less sauce and other moisture rich ingredients (like mushrooms).
I've had them fall apart on me--but only if I try to load it too much.
Pre-bake for 5 minutes with the sauce--then add toppings, that can help too.
Sean,
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to a post-race look back on running a race? Did you injure yourself? Were you dealing with the typical soreness for one day, two days? Were there literally no consequences and if circumstances dictated you could run 5K everyday before breakfast? What happened after you raced a 5K?
--Chris
Chris, the race went well. I'm not sure if my "minor medical issue" was caused by the jogging or not...it may have been.
DeleteI was a little sore the next day, but nothing too bad.
I don't know about a 5K every morning--but I've certainly given much consideration to how an early morning jog for 30 minutes would be a great way to start my day.
Okay--I'll be straight instead of cryptic-- the issue was a hemorrhoid. This is something I haven't dealt with in years, since my heaviest... I'm not clear if the jogging created this via the strain created during--or if my pre-race preparation of making sure I'm "clear" before getting out there, was a little too much. That's likely TMI... but that's what it is. Painful for sure... and preventable.
Sean,
DeleteYou are a beautiful man. The unexpected skin shots, and this response, just seem to point out how any shame, or hiding, is no longer serving whom you have become. That's great.
We're about the same age (I think) and that is called "ageing" It is wonderful you did something new and tough and paid a bit of a price and learned something....about the only advantage of 'ageing' is that it DOES bring about wisdom too. Keep pushing!
--Chris
Wow sorry about the leg watch it for infection.
ReplyDeleteI'm being very careful, Robin. Thank you!
DeleteNever thought about it before - but as a DJ for teens you might have to play music for hours that wouldn't necessarily be your favorite. Hmmm Also to do a good job, your acting ability has to come into play. Applause to you. Get that leg healed quickly. And thanks again for your daily faithfulness of reporting!
ReplyDeleteN~
Thank you, Nancy! Yeah--the pre-teen kids wouldn't like "my music." The leg is very important. I'm taking excellent care of it, for sure.
DeleteGlad your on the mend! Now take care of your leg! Those gashes are not nice if it gets infected.
ReplyDeleteHave a good rest of your weekend!
Rosie
Rosie-- Thank you. I'm taking extraordinary care of it, for sure! Have a wonderful weekend!
