July 29th, 2014 What's This All About?

July 29th, 2014 What's This All About?

This will not be the post I planned on writing tonight. It's too late. But I'll remember what I wanted to write about and I will tomorrow night. I had work duties that kept me out way too late. I had a late dinner and I'm about to hit the pillow.

I wanted to catch up on blog reading, commenting and replying to emails too, but those will need to wait until in the morning. It has been an exceptional day. I wrote something emotionally stirring to me this morning, titled: What's This All About? In case you're not on my Facebook page, I wanted to share it with you.

"What's this all about? It's about progress, not perfection. It's about how you feel, not a number. It's about you and for you, not about or for anyone else. It's about living, not dying. It's about dreaming, not dreading. It's about freedom, not imprisonment. It's about opening your mind to the possibilities, not closing it to the changes. It's about acceptance, not rejection. It's about nourishing, not depriving. It's about a broadly consistent importance level, not short bursts of narrow focus. It's about wanting, not forcing. It's about doing your best, not trying to do another's best. It's about today, not tomorrow, or next week or the first of the month or January 1st. It's about committing to consistency with all your heart and holding on tight, not a halfhearted commitment easily released with the slightest breeze. It's about you deserving better, because you do. It's about you being important, because you are important."

Life Coach Gerri decided to make this Facebook microblog of mine a topic of discussion during our Tuesday night weight loss support group conference call. As Gerri read the words, my bottom lip trembled and tears started welling up. I believe every single word in the most powerful, I've lived it, kind of way. Hearing someone else read it so beautifully brought all of my emotions front and center. It did, because even through all I've experienced along this road, some of these things I've only learned and embraced within the last three and a half months. And those previously undiscovered treasures have given me an emotional freedom I didn't even realize I was lacking after my initial 275 pound weight loss. I'm still learning and I don't want to ever stop learning.

I was gifted a box of donuts this morning by a client who didn't know any better. He was being very kind and generous and was/is completely unaware of my life outside of my radio show. I quickly re-gifted to someone I knew would/could appreciate their premium goodness.

Spin class today was phenomenal. I'm not sure why, either. Maybe it was the music and routine, or Loyd the instructor (he's good), or the fact that the first clothier to fit me into a sharp tuxedo was one of my classmates this afternoon. I don't know. All I know is, it felt incredible and I pushed harder than I have ever pushed in that spin studio. I was inspired, absolutely.

  1. Wow, those donuts look really good. Congratulations on passing them on. I would have been so tempted to have just one... or two...

    1. They did look really super premium quality!! No sugar for me--so I had to pass! Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

  2. Forgot how much I enjoyed your videos! Make more, please! You have a great voice... so glad you're in a job where you get to use it!

And yes... kudos on the discipline you showed. (I would've been tempted, too, Natalie, and probably would have had one in place of lunch and then regretted it when the sleepiness and hungriness set in.)

This is the line that really sticks out for me right now. I just have to find it within me to fully commit to this weight loss again

Great work on the spin class!

  4. Loved all the pictures and the Movie too! How come Larry is so skinny if he eats donuts? I wonder that kind of stuff all the time--it's just jealousy.

    1. He was on my show earlier that morning and before going on, off air, he said "I've never gained an ounce and I eat whatever I want." We were discussing metabolism... When the donuts showed up--he naturally was the first person who came to mind!

  5. As a professional voice coach, I wonder if you sing? Is that deep speaking voice a bass singing voice?

    1. I've always wanted to sing. Always been too shy. I did get over it and I faced it during a professional show in front of an audience. I was the MC for this variety show--and the band indulged me and let me do one.. It was an amazing experience. I hope to do it again someday.

  7. It was a phenominal group last night. Sean. You do have a gift of words. I am so glad that you published Transformation Road and can't wait until you start on the sequel - maybe call it the detour? So much more real these last 3 months or so.
