When I started this morning, my plan for the day looked completely different. Then, work got a touch hectic. It turned out to be a longer day than expected. Successfully adjusting the plan and schedule on the fly is something of a learned thing for me. Before, if things didn't go as planned, it was the perfect excuse to tear it all down and start again tomorrow morning, or next week...or next month, or who knows when?
I try to remember, I'm the one who makes the plan and it's always subject to change. If a change is warranted, I let the old one go and embrace the new plan. Not sticking to the original plan isn't a failure, as my old belief system suggested. Making a successful pivot to alternate plans is where it all becomes a win. The only time the pivot becomes difficult is when I don't like the reason for the change, or I'm upset with myself for allowing the change to become a necessary move, when I know it wasn't, or didn't have to happen. I'm fine with changing the plans on a day like today.
I call it a pivot because I'm making certain I keep one foot planted firmly on the fundamental elements of my recovery, while moving the other in the direction needed.
I had planned a rest day from the YMCA for Saturday or Sunday. Instead, I moved it to today. Easy. It was a necessary change. I made full use of my evening. I cooked a great meal and watched a funny movie on NetFlix. It takes a lot to make me laugh out loud and The Interview triggered it several times. It felt good to laugh. It always feels good to laugh!

Michael's story fascinates me. We found the similarities in our experiences along this road to be remarkable. I highly recommend checking out his blog. He's started an incredible turnaround and he's taking it to another level!
I've experienced a wonderful food day. From the steak and eggs breakfast to the 'never gets old to me' bean and cheese tostadas, it was incredibly delicious. The sweet potato/squash/zucchini squash veggie dish is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Next time, I plan to add some green beans, mushrooms and onions.

ReplyDeleteI started back to weekly classes as result of your discovery of yoga. It's been good for a couple of weeks now. What is your yoga plan for this up coming week? Will you go to one, or two classes? Which day of this upcoming week do you plan on going?

Yes--Yoga...I absolutely love it. I've had to miss lately. i didn't get in my practice this last week.
DeleteI WILL be in Yoga class this coming Monday and Wednesday...Both days are flexible--either a 4pm or a 5:30pm class. It's imperative for me to remain consistent with this schedule. Two days a week shouldn't be hard for me to maintain--especially with the choice of start times.
I'm so glad you're back in practice!! I'm telling you, Chris--I'm attracted to it on a deep level. I resisted a long time-- But now, I can imagine doing it for the rest of my life. It'll benefit me immensely.
