Since our last edition: I've maintained the integrity of my food plan boundaries, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've met or exceeded my daily water goal, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.
I needed the break of the last four days. My goals were met, for the most part- except for rest, I could have made room for more of that. But all in all, it was a good time off work. I was so exhausted last night, so I honored that by going to bed right before 8pm. It was unusual for me- but felt amazing. The downside to that: I woke at 2:30am unable to go back to sleep. Okay! So, I've started my Monday early!
I finally tried Jack fruit yesterday. It’s an interesting thing- almost like candy, this fruit... it’s from Thailand. I don’t think it’ll become a staple of my food plan- but at least now, when I see the giant Jack fruit at the grocery store, I’ll no longer be completely mystified about how people eat it and what it’s like. I also tried a purple sweet potato. Oh my... it’s amazing. I’ll likely seek out more of those. I also tried a vegetarian lasagna made with grilled eggplant and grilled zucchini. It was delicious. It wasn’t enough to “convert” my food plan entirely, but it proved to me that I could genuinely enjoy something like that and I will, on occasion.
I watched a couple of documentaries, too, ("Happy"-available for rent on YouTube and "The Game Changers"-available on Netflix) and I also listened to an expert speak about different food combinations and the effects on digestion and metabolism. I've never been one to get too far into deeper understandings of things like this. I keep things as simple as I can because it seems to work for me and that way, I don't get obsessed or over-analytical. However, some of the simplistic things I learned about the differences in fruits and how they digest--and how our digestion works and how it affects metabolism, was fascinating to me and very easy to understand. I don't make changes to my food plan easily--because I don't take it lightly, but one thing I'm immediately practicing is a separation between my main meals and the fruit I enjoy. I'll still enjoy my fruit, but when I do, it'll be one type of fruit at a time and separate from my regular meals, unless the fruit in and of itself is the meal. It's a super-simple change to give a good go.
I explored ways to expand my circle of support, too, meeting some wonderful people Saturday afternoon--more people who "get me" and relate to what I do and "why" I do what I do. Connecting with people in the same "lifeboat" always feels good.
I'll be honest, I don’t wanna go back to work today. That's human, ya know? I need a day off to rest from my days off. However, I’m going back to work today. Although, during my “reentry,” I’m determined to take it as easily as the day allows.
I hope your Monday start is an amazing one! It’s been an early one here, but a good one.
I’m so grateful. That’s been the overwhelming feeling this morning. I’m full of gratitude for the blessings in my life and the opportunities I have to continue a well-intentioned practice of living. And man... it is a practice, right?
Facebook pops up years-old "memories" all the time. Sometimes it'll make me cringe--especially if I shared something that clearly shows how I "didn't know what I didn't know." That's a good way of putting that, I think. I found something from eight years ago that I do believe is evergreen in its message:
When almost all hope is gone, when it seems darkest, impossible, void of even the smallest chance it might ever turn around—this is when a most critical decision is made. Is it really hopeless? Or is “hopeless” a story exclusive to our imagination and the perspective we choose? It will be whatever we decide. If we decide it's hopeless, we're instantly relieved of the decision making process from that point forward—we'll be shaped by the changes coming. However, if we choose change despite our challenges—if we make this crucial decision now—we instantly render powerless every excuse and past rationalization keeping us locked up. People overcome incredible odds every day. We're people. We're capable of amazing things.
In regards to that, for me--One of the most powerful things was/has been/and continues to be watching, listening, and learning from others and their incredible stories of hope and experience. For that portal of learning and receiving to flow, it requires me to always remain open-minded and be willing to watch, listen, and learn. I love to share, write, and speak--certainly, however--the most important thing I can do for me is to pause, stop talking, stop writing--and simply be open to the learning along this road. The learning never stops. I hope and pray I never forget that critical piece.
My morning foundational routine is complete. I'm properly caffeinated, too. I feel ready for today, come what may.
I plan on a good visit with mom later today, as well.
Do you own an "I'm Choosing Change" wristband? I wear mine daily as a constant reminder of why my daily practice of things is important. For me, it's simply a daily reminder to be open, willing, mindful, to pause, and to be intentional. If I'm not those things, I get stuck at the line of least resistance and back there is where the old patterns and behaviors thrive. Your order includes priority shipping so you'll get it quickly! Here's the link to order yours right now: https://imchoosingchange.com/product/wristband/
