October 11th, 2019 What I Want

October 11th, 2019 What I Want

Since last night, I've maintained the integrity of my calorie budget, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've exceeded my daily water goal, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

Having the opportunity today to spend nearly six hours in a car with someone who's had such a profound positive impact on my life, was a tremendous blessing. We talked the entire time. I don't put Gerri on a pedestal--although it might seem that way. She'd be the first to say "I'm just another bozo on the bus," but I can't keep myself from expressing gratitude for the impact her friendship, mentoring, and coaching has had on my life. She works her daily practice of things just as I do. Not the exact same because each of us fashion our personal plans to uniquely fit, but with super-similar perspectives, certainly. Here's the thing: People like Gerri and Dr. Lerner have what I want: Decades of peace, calm, and stability. I'm a willing student simply trying to learn all I can. I'm stubborn too and set in a lot of my ways! Because of this, it's a challenge for me much of the time!

I wouldn't want anyone to put me on a pedestal, either. I wake up each day and humbly admit I don't "got this." That's the first thing, every single morning, followed by prayer, meditation, positive visualizations, and affirmations. In order for me to remain well, I must be willing to embrace my daily practice of things. I'm perfectly capable of tossing it all away and quickly going back to being a miserable 500-pound man headed to an early death. I pray I don't. But I'm never immune to that fate. My disease of food addiction/compulsive over-eating is a determined one. That's why it's good for me to occasionally stop talking and simply open my mind, ears, and heart--and pay attention.

This weekend conference is a working one--a learning one. There isn't time for Graceland, Sun Studios, tracking down fellow blogger Jack-***t Gettin' Fit, or anything else popular on a trip to Memphis. I'm thrilled to be here. The speakers today and tonight had me glued to their every word. Powerful, inspiring, and full of incredible truths--every single one. I can't wait until tomorrow.

One thing I'll mention about the food postings...and I know I've mentioned this many times over the years; these are simply part of my accountability measures. I mention this again and again because truly, it's not all about the food. Developing and evolving a daily practice of things and embracing perspectives that keep me off the diet mentality merry-go-round requires much much more than a food plan, believe me.

I better get some rest. Another full day starts early.

I haven't had much time for picture taking today. I'll do some tomorrow and share a few.

October 10th, 2019 Kind Of Like It

October 10th, 2019 Kind Of Like It

Since our last visit, I've maintained the integrity of my calorie budget, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've exceeded my daily water goal, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

It's storming like crazy in this RV park just outside of Branson. I kind of like it because at home a storm like this would mean I'd be at work. Instead, I'm simply enjoying the sound of it all. It's loud on the roof of this mega home on wheels. Gerri and David's hospitality is a blessing. Gerri prepared a wonderful dinner tonight (see instagram post below).

Gerri and I will be headed to Memphis in the morning for a weekend conference. I'm looking forward to listening and learning!

Today has been a really good day.

Keeping it short tonight! More from Memphis this weekend--including some pics, I'm sure!

October 8th, 2019 Taking It

October 8th, 2019 Taking It

Since our last visit, I've maintained the integrity of my calorie budget, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've exceeded my daily water goal, I enjoyed a good workout at the RecPlex, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

I have one more day of work before I'm off until Tuesday. I've been blessed with an opportunity to spend a few days with my longtime mentor and friend, Gerri Helms, and I'm taking it! I'm looking forward to seeing her, her husband Dave, and many other fantastic people.

Gerri has worked with me and helped me through some of the roughest periods over the last eleven years. She'll certainly deflect or downplay this, I'm certain, but I can honestly say--I don't think I would have gotten this far without her example, guidance, and ability to cut straight to the truth in the most loving and supportive ways.

A colleague recently mentioned my "eleven-year diet" the other day, and I just smile. It's okay. Unless someone has specifically asked for my opinion or advice, I don't spend time trying to explain the difference between a diet mentality and a recovery based mentality. This isn't about being on a diet. But I get it, the perception--it's very common. This isn't about dieting, it's about creating a daily practice in life that is most supportive of my personal peace, calm, and stability.

This daily practice is never perfect and it doesn't need to be--further, that's not the pursuit.

The importance of staying connected with people who get it is imperative--by whatever means possible. We assemble tools to help us along each day. The accountability and support groups I facilitate (and actually founded with Gerri years ago) is a powerful tool. Our new session starts tonight and tomorrow night. If you're interested in being a member of this small, exclusive, and powerful team--then as soon as possible--email me transformation.road@gmail.com or text 580-491-2228. I'll give you details and answer any questions you might have.

This support group is just one way to be better prepared in handling the challenges as they come. I'd love to work directly with you as you develop your personal practice of things along this road.

Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, our brains tell us a binge seems like the perfect next move. Putting some space, just a little, between the thought and the action--long enough to identify the what and why of the situation, is often all that's needed to correct the skid.  If it doesn't quite work--reach out to someone and share the experience and feeling. It's very powerful.  Expose it, shine a light--and discuss it with someone who gets it.

As a food addict, I'll tell you this: I've had times where I've felt driven to the fat and sugar.  Have you felt this too? When, despite the consequences--despite what you know is true, that a binge isn't going to fix anything and in fact make it all worse, you're driven like a moth to a flame? That's when it's really scary. The isolation that often accompanies such a leap is a dark, depressing place. And the only way out is to get connected, not only with your spiritual side but also with people who understand what you're experiencing. And stay connected.  Because you're not alone. We're never alone.  If we isolate, then we're still not alone, but it sure feels that way.

October 6th, 2019 Starts There

October 6th, 2019 Starts There

Since our last visit, I've maintained the integrity of my calorie budget, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've exceeded my daily water goal, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

My location broadcasts Saturday went well. My food plan was set going into these, so the free food offered at the first event and the festival food available at the second wasn't a consideration. Timing becomes important--I planned my breakfast right before departing and that carried me through well on a physical level. On a mental level, the other stuff just wasn't my food. It's all about focus I think. I was focused on my job and doing it well. There wasn't time and energy to give to anything else. Of course, it's the strength of the morning foundational routine that ultimately supports this frame of mind. It always starts there.

I enjoyed a good weekend. My outing with mom was a good visit with her and a trip to our usual Mexican restaurant. Mom is doing fairly well. She's staying relatively healthy--and that's a great thing. The changes in her care plan seem to be working well and that's a big relief. I'm a worrier, always have been, and when she's doing well, I worry less.

I'm excited about the next 8-week session of the weekly teleconference accountability and support group I facilitate! It starts on Wednesday and Thursday. We all share a secret Facebook page for daily interactions, then once a week we have three different hour-long group mentoring/coaching sessions. Each member picks the call time that best fits their schedule: Wednesday at 7pm Central/8pm Eastern/6pm Mountain/5pm Pacific, Wednesday at 8:15pm Central/9:15pm Eastern/7:15pm Mountain/6:15 Pacific, or Thursday 8pm Central/9pm Eastern/7pm Mountain/6pm Pacific. We have members spread out all over the country in every time zone! I do keep the group small, so we only have a few spots available for this new session. If you're interested in joining us, please email me right away at transformation.road@gmail.com or text me: 580-491-2228

October 4th, 2019 It's All Relative

October 4th, 2019 It's All Relative

Since our last visit, I've maintained the integrity of my calorie budget, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've exceeded my daily water goal, I enjoyed a good workout at the RecPlex, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

It seems to be a challenging period for me lately. I know I'm not the only one. These times happen. There's never an expectation of everything sailing along picture-perfect every single day, week, or month. That's not how life works. The thing I must do is lean into the plan practice instead of away from it. I've lived through the various sides of this road--and experience tells me, when things get stressful or emotional--or a potent combination of the two, I must take extra-special care of the elements helping keep me well. It's not easy some days! Some days really suck. But I know how quickly the tide can turn in a direction I don't want to go. Extra measures are sometimes required to weather tough periods. The good news is: Difficult times pass. We hold on and we make it through. We let go and the difficult times worsen and stay much longer.

When I'm not giving myself the level of self-care I need, I realize it's not because "I'm busy" or "It's been a stressful day," no--those are the outs. I believe the reasons for lack of self-care go far deeper into our mental and emotional relationship with self. Instead of me saying, "I'm going to work on doing better," I must say, "I'm going to love myself enough to care, enough to realize I'm good and deserving of better care, and I gotta repeat the words and intentional actions enough to truly change those deep-seeded (subconscious) beliefs I've held about me. We must realize we're fantastic beings worthy of the best plans, actions, and care possible."

I stopped by mom's after my visit to the RecPlex tonight. We shared a good visit! I'm feeling really well tonight. Tomorrow finds me doing two different back-to-back location broadcasts. I'll be planned, ready, and open to making it a great Saturday. I hope yours is fantastic, too!!

I've shared with you many times about the weight loss support group I facilitate. There's something special about this group. How can a group with a coach/mentor--and a team of members, help your weight loss efforts in this last quarter of 2019?

It's the power of accountability and support. It's not going it alone. It's sharing this commitment with fellow team members who are "in the same lifeboat," as Dr. Marty Lerner puts it. Our individual plans are unique, our goals are unique, our current status (weight loss/maintenance) can be different--my goodness, we have members just getting started and some who are in maintenance mode or real close!

We have members who have lost in excess of 100 and 200 pounds--and some who's goal was 20 to 50 pounds. Here's the thing: It's all relative. One person's 50 is another person's 150.

This is a diverse group-- but one thing is remarkably similar. Each member who makes an effort to engage, commit to their individual practice, and embrace the accountability and support offered, typically experiences the type of success that goes beyond anything they've experienced. This isn't a "diet group" or a food plan, and we all don't have identical practices. We each make it our own.

Are you on the fence about joining this small and exclusive private group? If you have any questions for me--send them! transformation.road@gmail.com or text me: 580-491-2228

The latest 8-week session starts on Wednesday, October 9th. It includes a "secret" facebook group for members where we support one another along the way. Membership in the group includes as needed call and text support with me and other members, and a weekly group conference call where we work together to help create your unique plan, identify challenges and find solutions. The fee for the 8-week session is $120.00 That averages out to $15 a week or $2.14 a day.

Could this be a potentially life-changing tool for you? If you pick it up and use it, it could be!
