February 25th, 2020 Least I Can Do

February 25th, 2020 Least I Can Do

Since our last edition, I've maintained the integrity of my food plan boundaries, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've met or exceeded my daily water goal, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

It feels really good to be on the other side of my recent flu-like-whatever it was. I made it out to mom's last night for a visit, the first in a week, and it was fantastic. I'm so grateful for her clarity of late. The last day she seemed heavily affected by confusion was last Wednesday. That's a real blessing.

I'm finally feeling like moving into a more active mode. Lately, for good reason, I've been in a "least I can do" type mode. Allowing this kind of flexibility without the backlash of negative head chatter is very important for me. It's also very important for me to recognize when it's time to move into a more active period. The elements of "taking good care" amid challenging circumstances, for me, can be somewhat of a trap--where I find a baseline of least resistance. At that place, the list becomes small and manageable. My top goals for the past several weeks have been to maintain my daily mental/emotional/spiritual foundational routine and the integrity of my food plan boundaries. Keeping it simple helps when life becomes super-challenging, of course--but as soon as the challenges transition back into a somewhat normal pattern of things, it becomes time for the things to change. I took a good walk yesterday afternoon. That was a start.

A colleague's spouse's mom passed away over the weekend. I'm keeping things covered at the studio the same as she would certainly do for me in similar circumstances. I pray that a similar circumstance doesn't occur for a very long time.

My foundational routine is complete, my food is planned for today, and I have a plan for some good exercise this afternoon/evening.

I'm headed to the studio feeling well and well prepared for a good Tuesday. I hope yours is a good one, too!

February 22nd, 2020 Was Good

February 22nd, 2020 Was Good

Since our last edition, I've maintained the integrity of my food plan boundaries, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've met or exceeded my daily water goal, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

Just a quick update: It feels good to be completely off work this weekend. I'm taking advantage of this time to rest and recover. When I take my medicine tonight, I'll have completed both prescriptions as directed. Instead of feeling better yesterday, I ended up feeling worse. I was relatively fine in the morning, but as the day progressed I felt a fever coming on--I countered with Tylenol and an epic four and a half hour nap. The fever broke and I haven't felt feverish since. Not proud to admit, but I've had many nights with less sleep. It was an amazingly restful nap. I wasn't interested in food yesterday. I did eat two meals--the last one being chicken soup, an orange, and Ezekiel toast with avocado. It was good.

Mom seems to be doing exceptionally well of late. She was very alert and aware yesterday during our phone chats. That's two days in a row. She's not liking my absence but she's at least understanding why and is accepting.

This time off is giving me plenty of extra time to work on different elements of my plan practice. I'm grateful for the time to heal and feel better!

February 20th, 2020 Caught It

February 20th, 2020 Caught It

Since our last edition, I've maintained the integrity of my food plan boundaries, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've met or exceeded my daily water goal, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

Tuesday late-morning found my flu-like symptoms much worse--so I left work early for a visit to the urgent care after discovering my primary care doc was booked solid. The flu test was negative however the PA suggested it was too early to get a positive reading. Apparently I "caught it" early. She prescribed Tamiflu and steroids. I took Wednesday completely off. I felt better this morning, so I made it in for my show and the finale of a big contest we were conducting. Some colleagues were not too thrilled at all with my presence--given the circumstances. In my defense, I wasn't running a fever, I was extremely mindful of coughing--and not doing it out in the open--and I was using hand sanitizer constantly. Still, I'll admit, I probably shouldn't have been at work today. Listeners were raking me over the coals for being on air! Ouch! Again, I couldn't disagree with them--but I was being as mindful and aware as possible in regards to breathing, coughing, and touching things. Now--I hope and pray nobody else gets sick at the studio because I'm totally getting the blame.

I have stayed completely away from mom's. I haven't seen her since our outing on Sunday. She's doing okay with that and we talk every day. Her confusion level is still fluctuating. Yesterday, every time we spoke and I mentioned how I was sick, she acted like it was the first time she was hearing this news. Today, however, she actually opened conversations with "how's the medicine working" and "I hope you get well quickly because I miss you." It's an interesting thing, the confusion created by co2 buildup. One thing's for sure---and good, it is definitely the co2 creating the brain fog. She was super sharp on the phone today--and that falls in line with the good report I received early this morning from her nurse: "She had a good night of rest." Excellent.

I have been getting some good rest, too. I feel great tonight. I'm continuing to take the medicine as prescribed and will through Saturday regardless of how I'm feeling. I'll admit, I have a history of not finishing medication as soon as I start feeling better. I know--doesn't make sense... Oh, it's working?? Then why don't I stop taking it? I'm not doing that this time.

I've been taking good care of my food plan and drinking good amounts of water. My foundational routine each morning has been in a good place as well. I'm "doing the do." I'm grateful.
