October 15th, 2019 Grateful For The Opportunity

October 15th, 2019 Grateful For The Opportunity

Since our last edition, I've maintained the integrity of my calorie budget, I've remained refined sugar-free, I've exceeded my daily water goal, I've intentionally exercised a few times, and I've stayed well connected with exceptional support.

This is the longest between blog posts in five and a half years. I'm not planning on making that a habit, I assure you. I also assure you, this time is very different! Years ago, when blog postings were few and far between it was certainly a sign that things were not going well. Now, it couldn't be more of the opposite. I made a conscious decision to focus completely on the weekend conference I attended--and in that decision, was a complete immersion into the most incredible kind of support I've ever experienced. It was an experience that exceeded my expectations in every way. I'm grateful for the opportunity.

On the way back from Memphis, I picked the wrong route on the navigation. This made that drive unforgettable in the worst ways. The Ozarks of Arkansas and Missouri have the most roller-coaster-like back roads I've ever experienced. By the time we realized what had happened, it was too late to turn back. Gerri and I had motion sickness and at times couldn't drive more than 25-30 miles per hour through the twisty-turny-hilly roads. It was an adventure. Our goal was to get back to Gerri and Dave's RV in Branson--and we were so relieved to meet that goal. We didn't even unload the car, we just climbed the steps inside and collapsed until we felt better.

My solo drive back to Oklahoma was less adventurous, thank goodness. Courtney, my youngest, was having gal bladder removal surgery--so it was straight to the hospital in my hometown of Stillwater. Her recovery was rough and she'll be uncomfortable for a few days, but she made it through and we got her home safe and sound.

Today has been exhausting! I quickly realized I should have made today part of that time off as well--just as a rest day after a long and wonderful extended weekend. But I made the best of it. I was able to leave work slightly early in order to make a nap a priority. I'm rested and ready to see mom in a little bit. I haven't seen mom since last Thursday. We're traveling the short distance to see Courtney and Irene and the grandkids this evening!

I recently hit 2000 consecutive days for my MyFitnessPal food diary!! Yay! It is one non-negotiable tool I use to help me along this road.

Five and a half years of daily food logging has served me well. I know myself well enough to know, this important daily practice element is imperative for my continued stability. It's one of several pillars I take very seriously. The great thing about MFP is, it gets smarter the more you use it because it remembers every entry you've ever made. Logging meal ingredients doesn't take that long because it most usually isn't a matter of finding an entry, it's simply a matter of entering the amount used for that meal. If it was time-consuming in the very beginning, it didn't take long for it to speed up.

A couple of picture collages from the past few days:

During the conference, I didn't pause long enough to do social media accountability postings on Instagram, but I still take accountability pics of everything--even if nobody sees some of them! Food plan while traveling worked well!

Incredible learning opportunities, early morning walks, inspirational workshop sessions, wonderful speakers, 20-plus hours of driving, Elvis in the hotel lobby, and some of the most precious time with my friend, Gerri. Over the years, she's been a mentor and a coach for me, of course--but mostly, and most importantly, she's been a good friend. I'm forever grateful for her friendship and guidance.
