October 2nd, 2016 Attention and Protection

October 2nd, 2016 Attention and Protection

Wrapping up my emcee duties at Oktoberfest, I can say, without hesitation--it was the best experience I've had at this annual event. I had a chance to see and talk to some people I haven't since last year's event--and with some, it's been even longer. Visiting with people free of the head chatter created during times of incredible struggle, is such a blessing. I was able to simply relax and enjoy the conversation.

And listen to them, I did--even asking questions and truly caring about the answers. I was able to listen more intently and attentively. Listening is an important part of a meaningful conversation and it's really hard to actually listen when your head is asking a million questions--all centered around the assumptions of what the other might be thinking of you. I experienced that dynamic at its worst in October of 2013...

It was near the top of my relapse/regain--and there I was, out there--and constantly running into people...people who now knew...I was not doing well. To be doing so well now--my goodness, all I can say is--it's a tremendous blessing and I'm incredibly grateful. I carefully hold it, like I'm carrying precious crystal--something so fragile requires my attention and protection, and I give it attention and protection.

I made it home, relaxed with a decaf and prepared for a 6pm podcast interview. After the interview, I prepared dinner, and not long after that, I remembered a radio client location recording session I was scheduled for this evening!!! Eeeeek! My plans of podcast post-production and a workout was scrapped. Fortunately, I had plenty of exercise at the festival--and I gave myself that option to count this as a workout today. The location recording session was late, and lucky for me, the time was flexible.

It's late--and I'm done for the day!

By the way, thank you for all the wonderful interest in the weight loss support groups I've been writing about lately. We filled up quickly. I think we have one space remaining on Tuesday night and one premium Monday night group spot (the one that features weekly one on one sessions). If you're interested--email me and I'll confirm the availability. transformation.road@gmail.com

Today: I maintained the integrity of my maintenance calorie budget. I remained abstinent from refined sugar. I stayed connected with great support and I met my daily water goal. It was a fantastic day! I'll aim for another, tomorrow.

  1. I have never been so hung up on what people were thinking of me that I couldn't concentrate, but I have been so focussed on the food that I couldn't enjoy the conversation. I only cared when the food was coming out! How many wedding speeches have I fidgeted through wondering what dessert was going to be?
